Aubrey Miles (born Aubrey Sandel, March 16, 1982) is a Filipina television host, singer and actress.
Miles was born March 16, 1982, in Caloocan, Philippines, to Victorino Sandel and Maria Perla Santos. At 16, Miles, the third among four children, was already appearing in GMA sitcoms like Beh Bote Nga and German Moreno's Best Friends. In between showbiz assignments, she would join beauty contests such as Miss Ever Gotesco, Miss Caloocan, Miss Lions Club, plus Miss Global Philippines – in which her sister ended up being the first runner-up and she won fourth runner-up. Although she never won a title she achieved runner-up positions, which provided a steady income. She finished her secondary education at La Consolacion Academy in Caloocan City.
While a sophomore at University of Santo Tomas' Conservatory of Music, where she was studying for a major in voice and minor in piano, film producer Dondon Monteverde signed her up to an eight-film, two-year contract with Regal Films.
Her debut role was a provincial prostitute in the movie Prosti (abbreviation for "prostitute"). Highly successful at the box office, the film grossed ₱29 million. To date, Prosti remains her highest grossing movie. The success in the titular role led to other movie offers, as well as product endorsement deals from companies such as Bench (a clothing company in the Philippines).
After Prosti, Miles starred in the movie Xerex (based on a tabloid sex advice column), where she played three different roles. The film fared poorly at the box office due to the concurrent release of two films: Viva Films' Sex Drive and 20th Century Fox's X2: X-Men United.
Originally scheduled for an April 2, 2003 theatrical release, Regal delayed Xerex's opening by 28 days, realizing the Sex Drive cast's duo of Aubrey's rival Maui Taylor and her fellow "Viva Hot Babe" Katya Santos would be a formidable box-office attraction.
When Xerex later opened on April 30 it was overshadowed by Hollywood's X2 release. Additionally Star Cinema's much-awaited romantic comedy Til There Was You (starring Judy Ann Santos and Piolo Pascual) premiered that same day. With further delays financially impractical, Regal had made the decision to release the film. Made on a budget of ₱24 million, the film grossed just ₱13.3 million. After home video sales were accounted for, the film made a ₱18.1 million loss.
Miles' next movie, Sanib, saw her play a character who is possessed by demons. Critics panned it as an inferior copycat of The Exorcist. Produced on a ₱25 million budget and supported by a high profile marketing campaign, it garnered ₱8.2 million gross at the box office.
Targeting multi-media exposure, Miles' manager secured her a contract with ABS-CBN television network. She appeared as co-host of daily noontime show Masayang Tanghali Bayan ("A Happy Afternoon, People"), and in several ABS-CBN sitcoms. As part of a strategy to build wider appeal, Miles also began appearing in more family friendly movie roles, in titles like Sanib, A Beautiful Life, and Gagamboy – Regal Film's 2003 Metro Manila Film Festival entry – as actor Vhong Navarro's love interest.
Miles has three times appeared on the cover of FHM Philippines: She was a covergirl in 2002, 2004 – depicted covered in gold-paint for the magazines' 75th issue, and in 2009.[1] Aubrey was also one of three FHM Calendar Girls along with Maui Taylor and Diana Zubiri for the FHM 2003 calendar.
Teaming-up with real-life best friend Jacqueline Yu, Miles was a contestant in The Amazing Race Asia 1. They finished in 9th place out of the 10 teams.
